i7-4790K + H80i = 95C+ Temps!

I've just put together a Intel 4790K mounted on a ASUS Maximus VII Hero with a Corsair H80i cooler, no O/C. Cooler is mounted push-pull with outside air pulled over the radiator, reservoir/tubes down.

I'm getting 31.5 C CPU temp @ idle (@ 23C room temp). At load (Prime95 28.5, 8 threads) I hit 88C within 10s of starting; the H80i fans rev up from 1000 RPM to 2000 RPM to try to keep it there. After 1-2 minutes, temps are 95C+.

I remounted the CPU block. I used Arctic MX-2 (cleaned off the old goop with isopropyl alcohol, installed a thin vertical line of paste, etc). Was careful about ensuring even pressure during install, evenly screwed it on, etc. Thermal results are basically unchanged.

One observation: The back plate / mounting screws are loose/wobbly; I've seen this reported elsewhere online. However, manually pushing down on the CPU block during testing doesn't noticeably affect the temperature, so I'm not sure if this is the problem.

I also noticed that when I remounted the cooler the first time, the thermal paste was not evenly "squished" -- the tubes on the block cause part of the block to be slightly pulled on. Again, manually pushing down on the cpu block should solve this (so long as my hand stays there) with no impact on temperatures.

Any suggestions? Is it possible there is something obstructing the installation, or the pump isn't working, or something like that?
