[IDEA] M95: Improve the "Manage Profiles" usability

Hi guys!

I have recently bought a Vegneance M95 and I must say I am pretty happy about it :)

Whereas the hardware is really nice (and I hope it will stay :P), I think the sotfware usability is a bit tricky -- and I saw lots of other people mentioning this. Especially the first time user struggles with it.

So I decided to help you guys out a bit in GUI design^^ I immediatly came up with some ideas. What I currently don't like at all is trhe "Manage Profiles" page. It's full of "hidden" and overcomplicated stuff, and makes it kinda hard to work with.

For example only after reading through this blog entry to understand that I need to click on the LEDs assign some profiles, and then write it to the M95 from there... it kinda makes no sense to the user to put it there.

Also it's not prossible to edit a profile without activating it... lol this is really annying since evertime I edit a profile my sensivity changes. It juts shouldn't be done that way.

Finally the distinction between hardware and software is not really clear and does not really well illustrate the "reality".

The current situation (pic from the blog):

To address those issues (and some more) I've created a mockup that aims better represent the logic behind it and totally make sense to the user:

(Note that this is merely a mock-up -- I did not aim to 100% reproduce the current design!)

The functionality aims to be pretty self-explanatory (and I hope this is the case?!).

I think it's really important to seperate between soft and hardware mode, since there are just to many differences/limitations one has to deal with.

I am interested, from both user and developer, about their opinion on the current situtation VS my solution. Do you aggree on the points I mentioned above? Are those issue adequately being addressed in my mock-up? Does my mock-up create other unwanted issues that havent been there before?

Feedback greatly appreciated! Hope you like it.

Regards,

Nuc!eoN

PS: Btw a seperate "Edit profile" page is already on the way... so be prepared!
