H100i making grinding noise

hi, i have a corsair h100i I've had it running for around 1 year and its developed a loud grinding noise... if i tild the case so the cooler is facing completely down the noise stops however id i rotate the case so its facing up the noise gets a lot worse. Any ideas what is causing is i thought trapped air but i can seem to get rid of it. Many thanks Jacob
