RAM problem on vintage build

Trying to get an old system working again, put in a second hand Asus motherboard and added two 1 GB modules of Corsair RAM I had. First it booted, I got as far as putting Linux on, then suddenly it wouldn't boot and then I started to get the constant beep code that usually means a RAM problem. just wondering if the memory is compatible with the board? (see specs for parts). If it isn't compatible, wondering why not (just for my education).
