This worked for me and I have not had any freezes with launching steam since.
I went to add remove program and removed something called "Logitech Gaming Software 64". I have a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro Joystick that I downloaded the software for. Its an app that allows you to set things on the joystick, mice and keyboard from Logitech. Maybe its wishful thinking and it could be but it seems to be working at the moment.
If it was a fluke I will post a follow up on here.

After two reboots, two days and trying to get the keyboard to crash, no freezing lights! I am keeping my fingers crossed at this point.
Maybe Logitech gaming stuff does not play fair with other devices with certain software, who knows.
